Determination of dangerous substances in mineral waste material according to TP Gestein-StB

Dr. rer. nat. B. Susset, Ostfildern

The so-called „Mantelverordnung“ (German Federal Decree for the Requirements of the Use of Alternative Mineral Building Materials in Technical Constructions and for the Amendment of the Federal Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Ordinance – short: German Federal Recycling Decree) regulates the use of mineral recycling materials (e. g. mineral waste, excavated soils, slag and ashes, recycling products, etc.) in technical constructions (e. g. road dams) and permanent applications (e. g. backfilling and landscaping) with regard to environmental compatibility. Long-term research results show that the seepage water concentration can be estimated most reliable by aqueous leaching tests – groundwater risk assessment should be based on leachate concentrations and not on solid concentrations, as there is in most cases no reliable relationship between the solid and aqueous concentrations. Furthermore, lower liquid to solid ratios are more reliable to assess relevant seepage water concentrations in medium time scale. For the “MantelV” new standardized and validated percolation test of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) are essential (for leaching of solid materials – percolation method for the joint examination of the leaching behaviour of inorganic and organic substances at a liquid to solid ratio of 2 l/kg). These new standards replace the previous methods. A quality assurance system with material-specific testing programmes (limit concentrations in eluates to be measured, number, schedule and kind of testing) is mandatory to specify the material quality of mineral recycling materials. This is based on an extensive column percolation test (DIN 19528, 2009) for initial characterization and an additional external (by certified bodies) quality control and a short-term column percolation test (DIN 19528, 2009) or a batch test (DIN 19529, 2015) for continuous internal (factory control) and continuous external quality control. The technical rules of the TP Gestein-StB and Annex D of TL Gestein-StB are not compatible with the requirements of German Federal Recycling Decree. Therefore, the FGSV-working group 6.2.7 “Auslaugverfahren” actually works on the adaption of the technical rules: - Part 7.1.6 new „percolation test (LS= 2 l/kg)“ for specification of DIN 19528, - Part 7.1.7 new „batch test (LS = 2 l/kg)“ for specification of DIN 19529, - Adaption of part 7.2 “Sample preparation und methods to determine solid concentratons”, - Adaption of part 7.3 “Analytical methods”.

Stoffkreisläufe aus Sicht der Zementindustrie

Material cycles from the perspective of the cement industry

Dr.-Ing. W. Remarque, Lengerich
Dr.-Ing. J. Scheidt, Dr.-Ing. T. Sievert, Wiesbaden

Dabei fallen i. d.

Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) is a valuable resource. Today, the crushed concrete that accrues during the demolition of buildings and infrastructure structures is largely used as raw material for the production of frost-resistant subbase or leveling layers. In order to be able to use this concrete as raw material for cement and concrete production, further processing steps are required. During these steps coarse aggregate (RC aggregate) and sand (recycled concrete fines, RCF) are received. The use RC aggregate for concrete was previously regulated by a guideline from the German Committee for Reinforced Concrete [DAfStb]. With the introduction of DIN 1045-2, edition 08-2023, application rules for the production of concrete with RC aggregate are normatively laid down for the first time. An increasing demand for concrete with RC aggregate leads to a higher availability of RCF. With the introduction of the new generation of standards for concrete and an expansion of the cement standards, RCF can in future be used both in concrete and in cement, for the production of cement clinker or as a main and minor constituent in cement. RCF, especially when reused in cement, makes contributions to both, efficient use of primary raw materials and less CO2-emissions. DIN EN 197-6 specifies the requirements for RCF to be used as a main or minor constituent, as well as the composition of the cements produced with them. If RCF are used to produce Clinker, this must be approved by the relevant state authority, as cement kilns has to fulfil the requirements of the BImSchV. The quality of the crushed sand is influenced by the composition of the original concrete, but also by the type of processing and storage period. Proper dismantling and targeted processing are crucial for a high recycling rate. Crushed sand from the processing of concrete can help to further reduce the amount of primary raw materials used to produce cement clinker and cement.

The goal of the FGSV working group “5.6.1 Sicherungsbauwerke” is to develop a guideline for the design and construction of safety structures to mitigate geohazards on roads. There is currently no such document in Germany. Rockfalls and landslides are dangers that have received little attention in existing regulations in this country. The initiative for this working group originated from a proposal by the road construction administration of Bavaria, which has been joined by other federal states. In Bavaria, 20 types of safety structures have been defined for protection against geohazards, 16 of which serve to protect against rockfall are to be covered in this guideline. This article aims the framework conditions for creating the guideline as well as selected issues.

Quantity objects according to REB 22.001: Can they be used with IFC?

Dr.-Ing. R. Steyer, Heitersheim
Š. Jaud, M. Sc., Moorenweis

In Germany, the regulations for electronic construction invoicing (REB) represent the procedural descriptions for the invoicing of road works, e. g. road  construction sites. REB 22.001 specifically regulates the exchange of geometric objects for quantity calculation in the construction industry. The objects with their geometric definitions (parameters) and associated quantities (one or more quantities) are made available for transfer from a source system to a target system. REB 22.001 defines quantities as the number [pcs], horizontal length [m], spatial length [m], surface area [m²], horizontal area [m²] and volume [m³], which are assigned to the objects point, line, area and solid. Quantity groups can contain one or more objects that are the subject of the quantity calculation in the source system. Each quantity group contains the (quantity) totals of all the objects it contains. For the check, the geometric objects are transferred to the target system with the quantities determined in the source system as an attribute and the associated quantity groups. The check calculation in the target system must prove that the quantities determined in the source system do not exceed certain tolerances in comparison with the quantity calculation in the target system. In terms of the BIM methodology, this is understood as the following use cases: checking the number of objects, the quantity calculation, the deviation between the calculations and the summation of the quantity groups. To support the technical check of the classification of the transferred objects, they are assigned a technical meaning. In Germany, technical meanings are defined in the road object catalogue (OKSTRA®) and are to be understood as technical objects in the sense of BIM or the IFC data standard. This study is based on the authors' experience in the implementation of information delivery manual (IDM) as part of BIM implementation. The REB 22.001 process description serves as the technical basis for the exchange of quantities, from which a special Model View Definition (MVD) was developed that supports all common IFC versions (2x3, 4 and 4.3) and provides a customized view of the model. By limiting itself to existing concepts of the Reference View, it was possible to reuse the existing software implementations of IFC export and import interfaces. The resulting MVD ensures the loss-free exchange of REB-compliant quantities for international construction projects, even outside the DACH market. A prototype was  implemented by AKG Software Consulting GmbH in VESTRA INFRAVISION and KOSTRA. This makes the exchange of quantity groups available both in OKSTRA® and in the IFC format that is frequently required internationally. This is the basis for BIM-compliant quantity exchange and is also practical proof of the high flexibility of the IFC as well as the high quality of the OKSTRA® exchange formats.
