Aktuelle Erkenntnisse zu Warmasphalt in Schaumbitumenbauweise
Current findings on warm mix asphalt with foamed bitumen
Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Radenberg; M. Sc. G. Bus, Bochum
The AiF research project (AiF/IGF Project No.: 21769 N/1), submitted via the German Asphalt Institute, DAI (AiF Research Association) and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK), is intended to provide evidence for an achievability of a sufficient reduction effect of the mixing and compaction temperature by the use of foamed bitumen even with the addition of reclaimed asphalt to a degree that is usual in practice. For this purpose, temperature ranges are aimed at which are assigned to the so-called warm asphalt (100 to 150 °C). The verification could be provided in the laboratory and on an industrial scale. The tests are being carried out on asphalt base, asphalt binder and asphalt wearing course mixes on both laboratory and industrial scale. The findings to date show that, compared with the respective reference asphalts, the hot asphalt mixtures with foamed bitumen produced at reduced temperatures have a reduction potential of 10 to 30 Kelvin. Even at an RAPcontent of 80 wt.% in an asphalt base course mix, a positive effect of the then only very low foamed bitumen content can still be demonstrated. The effect seems to be particularly pronounced for the foamed bitumen variants which are provided with special additives for foam stabilisation. In addition, the effect of a delayed stiffness development known from the literature does not seem to be confirmed by repeated investigations in the indirect dynamic tensile test (tests after 1, 14 and 28 days), although some evaluations and a comparison with practice are still missing for final conclusions.

The road to sustainability – Potentials and implementations in road construction technology
Hon.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. U. Zander, Bergisch Gladbach
In the future, road construction in Germany will have to focus much more strongly than before on sustainability in all processes related to the production of building materials, the construction of the structure and the disposal of waste when removing layers of road pavements. The requirements of climate protection have led to European regulations and national implementations that will in all likelihood lead to a fundamental change in the industry and replace economic efficiency as the sole determining factor for construction activity. The priority ecological sustainability goal is climate protection, which should receive significant contributions through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In this area, road construction can tap significant potential and thus positively align itself with the goals stated in the Taxonomy Ordinance and participate in the investment priorities postulated therein. In addition, the circular economy and thus the conservation of resources is an area of activity that must continue to be optimised for road construction. Thus, the reduction of temperatures in all areas of road construction, the high-quality handling of building materials and their efficient use and, above all, the increase of service life for the entire pavement and all individual superstructure layers are important goals that must be addressed in the short term and implemented in the regulations.

Progress in Systematic Maintenance Management with the Update of the „Recommendations for the Maintenance Management of Municipal Roads“ (E EMI)
Prof. Dipl.-Ing.

TThe "Recommendations for the Maintenance Management of Municipal Roads" (E EMI) were first published 20 years ago, the first update was issued 10 years ago. Therefore, the working group "Maintenance Management of Municipal Roads" of the Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV) is currently editing a further update of this fundamental set of rules for the maintenance management of municipal roads. In the past 20 years, numerous municipalities have gathered and shared experience that are to be included in the update. In particular, developments in the field of IT nowadays create possibilities for recording and processing large amounts of data. The handling of IT systems has also become much easier and more comfortable as graphic user interfaces have become widely accepted. For the application of the E EMI, the series of the associated working papers K 1 (Basics), K 2 (Condition Assessment), K 3 (Evaluation) and K 4 (Computer-aided Maintenance Management) are available. With these working papers, the E EMI are interpreted and illustrated with examples. Many years of application of the procedures and methods have led to the fact that the working papers reflect the state of the art. The current update of the E EMI will therefore comprise the contents of the working papers. Furthermore, the editorial innovation is the transfer of the E EMI into nine self-contained individual volumes. Thematically, the volumes are based on the existing E EMI and the working papers. Volumes for the condition monitoring and evaluation of the structural substance are newly added in order to create a basis for sound maintenance management with qualified proposals for rehabilitation measures. The update also incorporates the results of various research projects financed by the "Urban Transportation Research Programme" (FOPS). The editorial reorganisation of the E EMI into nine individual volumes not only allows targeted access to currently required information, but also creates an easier possibility to carry out updates at shorter intervals in the future.

Aufnahme von Hochwasserschäden an Straßeninfrastruktur in der VG Gerolstein – Potentiale eines GIS basierten Ansatzes
Documentation of flood damage to road infrastructure in the Gerolstein association of municipalities – Potentials of a GIS based approach
Dr.-Ing. J. Roos; B. Sc. M. Bruch, Rockenhausen
Through the introduction of geographic informationsystems in the modern civil engineering branch, many new potential arise from its use. One of those is the simplification of damage assessments on municipal roads. Based on a structured concept of working from the preparation up to the output of results gi-systems provide a quick, cost-efficient and accurate method to carry out such assessments. While surveying flood damage to traffic facilities in the Gerolstein association of municipalities such a concept was tested. An on-site inspection was carried out using smart devices. The resulting data was then imported into a gi-system, processed and evaluated. The resulting output served as a basis for the preparation of funding applications and is further intended for a proper and professional reconstruction. Despite various problems in the course of processing, the applied concept turned out to be a powerful tool, which makes a large number of other possible applications conceivable.
